2025 marks a milestone year for AlphaQuad – we’re officially 25 years old!
As we celebrate this anniversary, we reflect on our journey from a one-man operation to a leading digital marketing agency that’s always been at the forefront of change.

How it all began
AlphaQuad’s story starts in the mid-1990s with our founder and managing director, Jon. After 16 years as a teacher, Jon was captivated by the emerging potential of a funny little thing called the “World Wide Web”. Who would’ve thought it would catch on as much as it did?! While teaching IT and web design, he discovered a passion for digital innovation and took the bold step to leave his teaching career behind.
Starting with a partnership creating e-commerce solutions for small businesses, Jon’s expertise and enthusiasm quickly attracted attention. The turning point came when a chance encounter led to AlphaQuad securing its first major client, Calor Gas, which became a decade-long partnership and helped establish AlphaQuad as a trusted name in digital marketing.


The name behind the brand
Why AlphaQuad? Jon, a lifelong Star Trek fan, wanted a name that reflected both his love for science fiction and the innovative, structured thinking behind the business. In the Star Trek universe, Earth is located in the Alpha Quadrant, the place where it all begins. AlphaQuad – a name that nods to beginnings, science, and innovation – was born.
Milestones that shaped us
Over the years, AlphaQuad has achieved incredible milestones, including:
- 1998: AlphaQuad is founded, initially working with SMEs to create websites and optimise their digital presence.
- 2000: The company becomes fully incorporated and begins taking on larger clients.
- 2005: AlphaQuad helps Calor Gas launch bbq.co.uk, a groundbreaking website that became the fourth most-visited BBQ website globally.
- 2015: A focus on data-driven marketing propels AlphaQuad into new sectors, including insurance and finance.
- 2025: Celebrating 25 years of excellence.

This approach has resulted in exceptional client retention. Many clients who first partnered with AlphaQuad decades ago continue to work with us, even as they’ve moved to new roles or organisations.
